First Aid certification is available for several levels of skill. Basic and Advanced are taught for many users.
A Wilderness First Aid series is also available.
“Heartsaver” or Standard First Aid (American Heart Association) focuses on an overview of common injuries and illnesses, and provides limited hands-on training in assessment and first aid techniques. It covers basic bleeding control, fracture and dislocation management, and recognition of various sudden illnesses.
Designed for Day Care Providers, non-professionals and volunteer good samaritans. This may include Boy Scouts, teachers, factory and store employees or medical responder teams, security guards, event staff, restaurant employees, public works crews, and anyone willing to be prepared for the unexpected in the family or their work place.
Wilderness First Aid (Emergency Care and Safety Institute ECSI) gives the participant a more thorough understanding of injuries and sudden illnesses. This course teaches thorough assessment, a structured approach to managing incidents and decision making, and hands-on practice including bleeding control and infection management, splinting, and transportation of injured or ill patients.
CPR/AED can be included in this course. Standard CPR/AED for Adults is the basic offer. Pediatric may be added, and BLS is also available (Usually for child camp counselors, directors, leaders).
Valid CPR cards are a prerequisite and any national provider cards are accepted, but must be presented and be valid for the time of the issued First Aid certificate!
Designed for staff and employees likely to be responsible for others in situations when additional help may be more than 1 hour away. This includes Scout Leaders, Guides, Search & Rescue teams, serious hikers, campers, climbers, and out-of-bounds sports enthusiasts.
Qualifies for the 16 hour course as required by Boy Scouts of America, River Guides, and Children’s Camp counselors when access to EMS is more than one (1) hour (2007 Std.) and 30 minutes (2012 Std), as stated in the ACA HW-1 part C and HW.2.2. and the NYS DOH Children's Camp Staff as noted in Subpart 7-2 and 7-2.8.
* Both courses use the same book: "NSC Advanced First Aid, CPR & AED" and curriculum. When the “Wilderness” aspect is requested, the "Remote Location First Aid" chapter content is added by being emphasized throughout all skills and the lessons are taught outdoors where and when permissible.
(50% of course on line. 8 hour practical hands-on skill session per schedule)
Advanced First Aid (Emergency Care and Safety Institute ECSI or National Safety Council) These 36 to 40 hour courses give the participant a very thorough understanding of injuries and sudden illnesses. Thess courses teache thorough assessment, a structured approach to managing incidents and decision making, and hands-on practice including bleeding control and infection management, splinting, and transportation of injured or ill patients.
CPR/AED is included in this course. Standard CPR/AED for Adults is the basic offer. Pediatric may be added, and BLS is also available.
Valid CPR cards are accepted, but must be presented and be valid for the time of the issued First Aid certificate!
